3 More Surprising Ways Your Lifestyle Can Affect Your Fertility | Knoxville TN lifestyle fertility photographer

April 28, 2025

Let’s keep on the momentum here. Welcome to Part 2 of Knoxville TN lifestyle fertility photographer. I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed, but instead to asses your lifestyle and choice and see if there is something you can work on. I want to help give you a tool to use. I can’t talk enough about Jordan Peterson and his 12 rules for life and his second book 12 More Rules for life. One rule he talks on is “to focus on one thing as hard as you can and see where it takes you”. So why am I telling you this? I want you to pick either one big thing to work on for example, diet or may 2 little things like going to bed early and stopping scrolling 1-2 hours before bedtime.

Now that we are thinking about only focusing one thing and not 6 things, let’s keep going.

Vitamin D Deficiency

This sunshine vitamin is a big player with fertility, regulating hormone levels and making sure those little eggs and swimmers develop healthily. If you’re lacking in vitamin D, your fertility might suffer!

So, get out there and soak up some sun or take a supplement.

When I was pregnant, one main thing my doctor kept telling me at every single appointment was to take my vitamin D and all the benefits it had for baby and mom. It helps with so much and especially energy and postpartum depression. I can’t always get outside for 30 minutes, but I try, I just supplement this daily to make sure I’m good regardless if I get sunshine.

Fertility is a complex issue, and there are many factors that can impact your ability to conceive. By being aware of these lesser known things that can affect your fertility, you can take steps to improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Over-Exercising

Sure, exercise is great for your overall health, but did you know that too much of it can actually be harmful to your fertility? Over-exercising can mess with your hormonal balance, decrease sperm count, and even cause irregular periods in women. So, don’t go overboard with your fitness routine. Aim for a moderate exercise routine that includes a mix of cardio and strength training.

I was diagnosed years ago with hashimoto’s thyroid disease, and one of the first things my doctor told me was to not over exercise! I had never heard of that before and that it could be harmful to my health. I know for myself, I stick to what I know is doable. I aim for 6-8k steps a day and dumbbells at home 3x/week (~30 minutes). This is simple and makes me want to do it. I don’t like cardio or jumping…”don’t put me down for cardio” đŸ˜› ) This is enough for me to feel good and not over do it.

I hear so may women that say they feel like they need to workout 5-6 days a week and push push push till they sweat and feel exhausted and I can’t imagine that is healthy or possible long term. Listen to your body and its limits and respect a place of rest.

Environmental Toxins

Turns out, the environment we live in is full of toxins that can mess with our baby-making abilities. From nasty pesticides to harmful phthalates, these sneaky little devils can affect both men and women. But hey, don’t sweat it! Just opt for organic produce, natural cleaning products, and say goodbye to those plastic containers with BPA.

  • Avoid Harmful Chemicals: Skip plastics with BPA, phthalates in products, and pesticides—use glass, natural items, and organic food.
  • Clean Your Air: Use air purifiers, open windows, and add plants to cut toxins like VOCs.
  • Filter Water: Get a good filter to remove metals and contaminants from your drinking water.
  • Cleaning Products: My GO TO is anything Seventh Generation brand

As a Knoxville TN lifestyle fertility photographer I have heard many mom’s deal with this or things like it and I hope this blog can help shine some light on things for you. Keep it simple and tangible. Pick one thing and focus on that đŸ™‚ I’m rooting for you!
